2025 Brentwood HS Green Machine Production "Toil and Transcendence" Featuring Drill Design by JJ Visual Design
Brentwood High School’s Toil and Transcendence brought the story of Sisyphus to the field, exploring the endless cycle of struggle, perseverance, and the pursuit of something just beyond reach. In Greek mythology, Sisyphus is condemned to repeatedly push a massive boulder uphill, only to have it roll back down as he approaches the summit.
The production culminated at the New York State Field Band Conference Championships in the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, where Brentwood earned the Large School 2 State Championship with a score of 92 and a sweep of all caption categories.
The drill for Toil and Transcendence was written by JJ Visual Design Lead Designer Jon Honeycutt, using movement and staging to help bring the production’s themes of toil, repetition, and transcendence to life.
